By continuously seeking new ways to improve, we aim to set a positive example for the industry and contribute to a greener future. Our Actions
Over the years, we have implemented several initiatives to reduce our environmental impact. They include:
- Reducing the amount of carpet in the Exhibit Hall. We ditched 19,000 sq. yards of aisle carpet and slashed 84 tons of carbon emissions!
- Encouraging our industry supporters to adopt sustainable practices and reduce their individual carbon footprint.
- Eliminating a printed agenda book and creating our robust mobile app.
- Integrating digital signage in the convention center to reduce printed signage.
- Discontinuing the printed DDW News newspaper and transferring content to an electronic version on our blog.
- Reducing the number of bag inserts and incorporated a digital version that is hosted on the DDW website.
- Working closely with facilities to incorporate recycling programs and eco-friendly catering options.
How You Can Contribute
Your participation and support are essential in helping us achieve our sustainability goals. Here are a few ways you can contribute:
Instead of printing your agenda, use the DDW Mobile App and Meeting Planner to access event schedules, session details, and other important information. This small change can significantly reduce paper waste.
Look for recycling bins throughout the convention center and dispose of your waste responsibly. By participating in our recycling programs, you help us reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
Consider using DDW shuttle buses, public transportation, carpooling or electric vehicles to travel around the city. All buses in DDW’s shuttle program are low emissions. A single motor coach can replace up to 55 cars on the road. Check out the digital route map to plan your trip!
Staying hydrated is essential, especially during long days. Bringing a reusable water bottle to DDW not only ensures you have a refreshing drink at hand but also contributes to a more sustainable environment. Refill with filtered water, located at many drinking fountains throughout convention center!
Hotels in San Diego are so close to the convention center, it’s easy to walk to DDW! In your off time, join San Diego Walks on small-group walking tours throughout the city.
